Take a Stroll around Port Alfred – Grab a map and explore!

You don’t need to use your car in Port Alfred; the town is small enough to be able to walk around. You can walk from your place of accommodation to tourist sites, beaches and shops. However, if you wish to take walking to another level, there are many different hiking trails you can participate in.

Port Alfred has a very mild climate, experiencing weather that is neither too hot nor too cold, making it perfect conditions to go for a walk all year round.

Take a walk along one of the beaches, located on either side of the Kowie River, and collect seashells. Over 1800 different types have been discovered on those beaches. It is advisable not to swim at West Beach as there is a rip tide off the pier. East Beach has great dunes for sand boarding and great waves for surfing. You can even take your dog along as they are allowed on that beach. The harbour is also a great spot to visit as it’s very picturesque.

The view of the Indian Ocean from the Royal Port Alfred Golf course is incredible. Take it all in whilst playing a round of golf. It’s also in walking distance from the beach. If you want to stand in one spot whilst hitting some balls, Green Fountain Farm Resort has the only driving range in Port Alfred.

If you take a walk along the river in the early evening you will hear the birds heading inland to roost overnight. You are also likely to see wildlife like springbok, giraffes, kudu, and young buck. Take along a picnic to enjoy on the safe river bank whilst you watch those passing by on the river. Just be careful to leave nature how you found it.

Heading inland away from the beach, you will see luxurious houses along the streets. You can also do some shopping at farm stalls along the R72. It’s something different to do if you decide to give the beach a miss that day.

If you don’t want to venture too far, there is plenty to see walking around the Green Fountain Farm Resort during your stay here. There is a dam to walk to and a pool to take a dip in afterwards. Ditch the car, save money and protect the environment. Put on your comfy shoes and get walking around Port Alfred!
